How we make it
We buy one paper by the tonne and use it across the range, so a pen behaves the same in every book we make. Orders leave Sheridan within 2 business days, and you have 30 days to send anything unused back.
A short range, printed repeatedly
We carry 13 titles across 4 categories, between $22.00 and $68.00. A stationery range gets long because a new cover costs almost nothing. Ours stays short because the paper is the expensive decision and we would rather buy one paper by the tonne and get it right than six papers by the ream and get them all nearly right.
Paper
Everything is printed on a 90gsm uncoated wood-free stock from a mill in the Rhineland, chosen after testing nine papers with a fountain pen, a rollerball and a cheap biro. It takes fountain pen ink without feathering and without the ghosting you get from the coated papers that feel smoother in the shop. It is not the whitest paper available, on purpose.
Binding
The pocket books are saddle-stitched with three staples rather than two, which is what stops the centre pages sagging out after a month in a back pocket. The larger notebooks are section-sewn and glued so they open flat without being cracked down the spine first. Neither is the cheapest way to do it.
